Zhang Kechun – The Yellow River (troisième édition)
Zhang Kechun est né en 1980 à Bazhong dans la province du Sichuan, il vit et travaille aujourd’hui dans la ville de Chengdu. Il s’est fait connaître ces dernières années sur la scène internationale pour ses représentations photographiques des paysages post-industriels chinois. Muni d’un appareil photo grand format, il arpente et immortalise de manière calme et empathique le territoire chinois en évoquant l’importance du paysage dans l’identité contemporaine du pays, explorant notamment les différents liens entre la population, le patrimoine culturel local et les effets de la modernisation.
« The Yellow River » est l’une de ses deux séries principales, avec « Between the Mountains and the Water » . À la lecture d’un poème de Zhang Chengzi (1948-) intitulé River of the North, il décide de mener un voyage initiatique de deux ans le long du deuxième plus long fleuve de Chine. Faisant écho aux représentations traditionnelles des paysages chinois, son approche photographique objective rend compte de la permanente visibilité de l’activité humaine le long de ce fleuve. Les zones les plus reculées sont désormais pleinement sous l’emprise du développement industriel et autrefois pleines de légendes, elles témoignent aujourd’hui d’un pessimisme criant et manifeste d’une étrange cohabitation entre le passé et le présent. Il sert d’une gamme de couleur jaunâtre afin d’englober et de mettre subtilement en évidence les noirs profonds des industries extractives polluantes. Des détails légèrement saturés soulignent parfois des apparitions inattendues dans des endroits abandonnés et fantomatiques, offrant au cliché des nuances poétiques et presque surréalistes.
Zhang Kechun a gagné le Concours de photographie du National Geographic en 2008. Il a remporté le prix Daylight Photo Award et le prix découverte des Rencontres d’Arles en 2014. Il a fait partie des listes de présélection des prix Three Shadow Photo Award et Sony World Photography Awards en 2012 et 2013 et du Prix HSBC pour la photographie en 2014. Ses travaux sont collectionnés internationalement par de nombreux musées et collections privées aux États-Unis, en France, en Allemagne, au Japon, et en Chine comme au Chinese Image and Video Archive au Canada, au Musée d’art du Williams College aux États-Unis et à l’Académie centrale des beaux-arts de Chine.
Qu’est-ce que L’INAPERÇU ?
Situé au coeur du Marais, haut lieu de l’art contemporain, entre le Centre Pompidou et le quartier des Arts-et-Métiers, L’INAPERÇU est un espace dédié à la photographie accueillant une librairie « curatée » d’un genre nouveau adossée à un café-restaurant empreint de modernité. Portée par la passion du partage, la librairie propose une sélection exigeante de livres de photographie et de livres d’artiste établie par des personnalités du monde de l’art et de l’édition, offrant aux visiteurs une sélection d’ouvrages d’exception. S’adressant aux amateurs de beaux livres comme aux curieux, ce lieu de vie propose une programmation riche d’évènements et de rencontres inédites.
Zhang Kechun – The Yellow River (third édition)
Zhang Kechun was born in 1980 in Bazhong, Sichuan province, and now lives and works in the city of Chengdu. In recent years, he has gained international recognition for his photographic depictions of post-industrial Chinese landscapes. Equipped with a large-format camera, he calmly and empathetically surveys and immortalizes the Chinese territory, evoking the importance of landscape in the country’s contemporary identity, exploring in particular the different links between the population, local cultural heritage and the effects of modernization.
« The Yellow River » is one of his two main series, along with « Between the Mountains and the Water ». After reading a poem by Zhang Chengzi (1948-) entitled River of the North, he decided to embark on a two-year journey of initiation along China’s second-longest river. Echoing traditional representations of Chinese landscapes, his objective photographic approach captures the permanent visibility of human activity along this river. The most remote areas are now fully in the grip of industrial development, and once full of legends, they now bear witness to a glaring pessimism and manifest a strange cohabitation between past and present. He uses a range of yellowish colors to subtly encompass and highlight the deep darkness of polluting extractive industries. Slightly saturated details sometimes highlight unexpected apparitions in abandoned, ghostly places, giving the shot poetic, almost surreal nuances.
Zhang Kechun won the National Geographic Photography Competition in 2008. He won the Daylight Photo Award and the Prix découverte des Rencontres d’Arles in 2014. He was shortlisted for the Three Shadow Photo Award and Sony World Photography Awards in 2012 and 2013, and for the HSBC Prize for Photography in 2014. His work is collected internationally by numerous museums and private collections in the USA, France, Germany, Japan, and China such as the Chinese Image and Video Archive in Canada, the Williams College Museum of Art in the USA and the Central Academy of Fine Arts in China.

Driven by a passion for sharing, the bookshop offers a demanding selection of photography and artist’s books compiled by personalities from the world of art and publishing, offering visitors a selection of exceptional works. Aimed at lovers of fine books as well as the curious, this place of life offers a rich programme of events and original encounters.
