L’exposition « Émotions Fugaces » réunit Kitikong Tilokwattanotai et Jiratchaya Pripwai, deux artistes majeurs de la scène contemporaine thaïlandaise, pour un voyage exploratoire de la nature éphémère des émotions dans des créations abstraites et méditatives. Dans sa nouvelle série, Kitikong Tilokwattanotai (né en 1978) poursuit son exploration des méandres de la mémoire dans une oeuvre riche en symboles. Si l’artiste est reconnu pour sa maîtrise du laquage, il développe parallèlement une pratique du collage. Jiratchaya Pripwai (née en 1983), quant à elle, emmène dans un univers où les émotions se déploient en lignes, couleurs et formes abstraites, créant une poésie visuelle intense. Ses peintures, issues d’un processus créatif intime, transforment ses souvenirs et ses sentiments en un langage pictural singulier et émouvant.
The ‘Émotions Fugaces’ exhibition brings together Kitikong Tilokwattanotai and Jiratchaya Pripwai, two major artists on the Thai contemporary scene, on an exploratory journey into the ephemeral nature of emotions in abstract and meditative creations. In his new series, Kitikong Tilokwattanotai (b. 1978) continues his exploration of the meanders of memory in a body of work rich in symbolism. While the artist is renowned for his mastery of lacquer, he is also developing a practice of collage. Jiratchaya Pripwai (b.1983) takes us into a world where emotions unfold in abstract lines, colours and shapes, creating intense visual poetry. Her paintings, the result of an intimate creative process, transform her memories and feelings into a singular and moving pictorial language.

Première exposition personnelle de l’artiste vietnamienne Lêna Bùi (née en 1985) à Paris, « Blue Filaments », du nom d’un projet en cours, explore les souvenirs, la matérialité et les croyances humaines de même que la relation des individus à leurs environnements. Ce projet débuta avec l’annonce par la mairie d’Ho-Chi-Minh Ville de l’abattage de centaines d’arbres – des Acajous d’Afrique, ramenés au Vietnam par les Français lors de la colonisation – au nom du développement urbain. Ces arbres ont façonné la ville, faisant partie de la vie des citadins, mais étonnamment, leur abattage a été annoncé dans un climat d’indifférence. A travers ce projet, l’artiste réfléchit à l’héritage français (ou de ce qu’il en reste) dans les anciennes colonies et révèle le paradoxe entre l’héritage colonial et les enjeux environnementaux. L’exposition « Blue Filaments » réunit une installation lumineuse et olfactive, une installation vidéo, et une série de peintures sur soie.
The first solo exhibition by Vietnamese artist Lêna Bùi (b. 1985) in Paris, ‘Blue Filaments’, named after an ongoing project, explores memories, materiality and human beliefs, as well as the relationship between individuals and their environments. The project began with the announcement by the Ho-Chi-Minh City Council that hundreds of trees – African mahogany trees brought to Vietnam by the French during colonisation – would be felled in the name of urban development. These trees have shaped the city, forming part of the lives of city dwellers, but surprisingly, their felling was announced in a climate of indifference. Through this project, the artist reflects on the French heritage (or what remains of it) in former colonies, and reveals the paradox between colonial heritage and environmental issues. ‘Blue Filaments’ brings together a light and smell installation, a video installation and a series of paintings on silk.

Keita Mori, né au Japon en 1981 et installé à Paris depuis 2011, développe un travail singulier de dessin, exclusivement réalisé avec des fils, tendus et collés, sur papier ou directement sur les murs. Pour sa nouvelle exposition à la galerie Catherine Putman, le dessin se déploie à plusieurs échelles, sur papier Arches, support qu’il affectionne, dans de petits et grands formats, mais aussi in situ pour une installation éphémère et monumentale réalisée directement sur les murs de la galerie. Les fils de coton, de soie, de laine ou en corde s’accumulent, se croisent, forment lignes droites, cercles et ellipses. Si le bleu outremer domine depuis longtemps dans sa palette, une importante variété de couleurs fait son apparition et de nouveaux motifs émergent au gré des expérimentations.
Keita Mori, who was born in Japan in 1981 and lives in Paris since 2011, is developing a singular body of drawing work, produced exclusively with wires, stretched and glued, on paper or directly onto walls. For his new exhibition at Galerie Catherine Putmann, the drawing is displayed on several scales, on Arches paper, his favourite medium, in small and large formats, but also in situ for an ephemeral and monumental installation created directly on the gallery walls. Threads of cotton, silk, wool or rope accumulate, intersect and form straight lines, circles and ellipses. Although ultramarine blue has long dominated her palette, a wide variety of colours are now appearing, and new motifs are emerging as he experiments.

L’exposition « Et le souffle devient signe » réunit des oeuvres utilisant l’écriture et le processus d’écrire de neuf artistes modernes et contemporains, originaires de Chine, d’Europe et des Etats-Unis, aussi divers que François Cheng, Henri Michaux, Mark Tobey, Chen Zhen, Yang Jiechang, Zheng Guogu and Yangjiang Group, He An, Shen Wei, ou encore Charwei Tsai. Le titre de l’exposition est inspiré de celui d’un livre de François Cheng (1929- ). Dans ce livre, Cheng décrit sa pratique calligraphique avec des expressions telles que « le pouvoir imaginaire des signes », « un lien avec l’univers », « pulveriser l’absurde » en faisant allusion à la tradition chinoise, dans laquelle la calligraphie, comme la poésie, la musique et la peinture, est considérée comme « une émanation du coeur ». L’ensemble des positions artistiques si divers réunis dans cette exposition montre ce « pouvoir imaginaire des signes » dont parle François Cheng.
The exhibition ‘Et le souffle devient signe’ brings together works using writing and the writing process by nine modern and contemporary artists from China, Europe and the United States, as diverse as François Cheng, Henri Michaux, Mark Tobey, Chen Zhen, Yang Jiechang, Zheng Guogu and Yangjiang Group, He An, Shen Wei, and Charwei Tsai. The title of the exhibition is inspired by a book by François Cheng (1929- ). In it, Cheng describes his calligraphic practice in terms such as ‘the imaginary power of signs’, ‘a link with the universe’ and ‘pulverising the absurd’, alluding to the Chinese tradition in which calligraphy, like poetry, music and painting, is considered to be ‘an emanation of the heart’. The diverse range of artistic positions brought together in this exhibition demonstrates the ‘imaginary power of signs’ referred to by François Cheng.
