“POLARAKI – Mille polaroids”, Nobuyoshi Araki @ Musée Guimet, Paris, 01.10.2025 – 12.01.2026
L’exposition POLARAKI met en lumière la place centrale du polaroid dans la création de Nobuyoshi Araki (né en 1940, Japon), figure majeure et radicale de la photographie japonaise. Les œuvres réunies couvrent près de trente années de création, rassemblées par le collectionneur Stéphane André, avant leur donation au musée Guimet en mai 2025.
Présentée dans la rotonde du musée, l’installation restitue le dispositif imaginé par le collectionneur : un ensemble dense de colonnes d’images allant du sol au plafond, où les polaroids dialoguent selon des associations tantôt fixées par Araki, tantôt choisies par André. L’exposition illustre la pratique compulsive du polaroid chez Araki. Celle-ci est utilisée comme un journal visuel nourri de désir, d’immédiateté et d’observation intime. Elle met également en avant la manière dont un collectionneur s’approprie une œuvre au point d’en composer un véritable cabinet personnel, saturé, varié et parfois déroutant.
The exhibition POLARAKI highlights the central role of the polaroid in the work of Nobuyoshi Araki (b.1940, Japan), a major and provocative figure in Japanese photography. The pieces on view span nearly three decades of creation and were assembled by collector Stéphane André before being donated to the Musée Guimet in May 2025.
Displayed in the museum’s rotunda, the installation recreates the display system conceived by the collector: a dense set of image columns rising from floor to ceiling, where Polaroids interact through groupings, some of which were arranged by Araki himself and others by André. The exhibition underscores Araki’s compulsive use of the Polaroid, which he treats as a visual diary driven by desire, immediacy, and intimate observation. It also sheds light on how a collector can appropriate an artist’s work to the point of shaping a personal cabinet of curiosities that is saturated, eclectic, and at times, disconcerting.
“The Blood of the Earth”, Korakrit Arunanondchai @ Le Consortium, Dijon, 16.05.2025-24.05.2026
Depuis plusieurs années, Korakrit Arunanondchai (né en 1986, Thaïlande), modèle le temps au travers d’installations immersives où se croisent vidéo, son et matériaux brûlés. L’installation The Blood of the Earth s’inscrit dans cette démarche. L’artiste y transforme les vestiges d’une ancienne imprimerie incendiée — aujourd’hui la Kunsthalle de Bangkok — en un sol recomposé, mêlé à la terre de Dijon. De cette matière hybride émergent différentes strates d’histoires et de lieux.
La surface sombre, fissurée et traversée de mots aux accents incantatoires, rompt avec la neutralité du white cube. Un paysage sonore en couches — des basses telluriques jusqu’aux voix célestes — enveloppe l’espace, conférant à l’ensemble la gravité d’un rituel suspendu. Une atmosphère trouble, hantée, semble flotter dans l’exposition, comme si la mémoire des lieux persistait dans la matière elle-même.
For several years, Korakrit Arunanondchai (b.1986, Thailand) has been shaping time through immersive installations that blend video, sound, and burned materials. The installation “The Blood of the Earth” continues this approach. The artist transforms the ashes of a former printing house destroyed by fire — now the Kunsthalle of Bangkok — into a reconstructed ground mixed with soil from Dijon. From this hybrid material emerge intertwined layers of places, histories, and temporalities.
The dark, cracked surface, marked with words that verge on the incantatory, breaks away from the neutrality of the white cube. A multilayered soundscape, ranging from deep, earthy bass tones to more ethereal voices, envelops the space, giving the installation the gravity of a suspended ritual. A troubled, haunted atmosphere seems to linger in the room, as if the memory of the site were still inscribed in the material itself.
“Couleurs de Corée, Lumière sur l’art contemporain coréen” @ Centre Culturel Coréen, Paris, 24.10.2025-29.08.2026
La couleur s’invite au Centre Culturel Coréen : réunissant 34 artistes aux trajectoires variées, l’exposition propose une réflexion sensible et met en dialogue leurs approches pour explorer le vaste spectre chromatique. Blanc, noir, rouge, jaune et bleu deviennent autant de nuances symboliques, déclinées entre pratiques artistiques traditionnelles et contemporaines, de la peinture jusqu’à l’art numérique. Cette exposition invite le visiteur à interroger la couleur comme pont entre les cultures et les époques, alors que la France et la Corée célèbrent le 140ᵉ anniversaire de leurs relations diplomatiques.
Color takes center stage at the Korean Cultural Center. Bringing together 34 artists with diverse backgrounds, the exhibition offers a thoughtful exploration of the chromatic spectrum by placing their perspectives in dialogue. White, black, red, yellow, and blue emerge as symbolic colors, expressed through both traditional and contemporary artistic practices, from painting to digital art. The exhibition invites visitors to consider color as a bridge between cultures and eras, as France and Korea celebrate the 140th anniversary of their diplomatic relations.
