The exhibition « Physical Painting » at Magda Danysz gallery in Shanghai reunites Wu Jianjun and Gong Chenyu, two Chinese painters of two different generations (the first was born in 1966 and the second in 1988). At first sight they have nothing in common, no similar art movement nor influences. However, when looking attentively at their work, one can see one similarity : a combinaison of pictoral techniques giving a very unique representation of faces and bodies, as hazy and frozen in time. It is also the passion for painting that reunites them. This exhibition is the concrete expression in mainland China of a unique art movement, renewing the use of oil painting.

A la galerie Magda Danysz à Shanghai, l’exposition « Physical Painting » réunit Gong Chenyu et Wu Jianjun, deux peintres de générations (l’un est de 1988 et l’autre de 1966), d’origines et d’écoles différentes. A priori rien ne les relie, pas de mouvements ou d’influences communes. A priori seulement, puisqu’en observant intensément leurs travaux, il se dégage étrangement un point commun : la représentation singulière des visages et des corps rendue possible par une combinaison de techniques picturales donnant naissance à une représentation unique, à la fois floue et figée dans le temps. Le goût de la peinture, la bonne peinture comme on aime à dire, les réunit. L’exposition est la manifestation concrète en Chine continentale de l’initiation d’un mouvement pictural chinois profond, celui d’une peinture à l’huile renouvelée et originale.
