À l’occasion de la journée mondiale de l’art, le samedi 15 avril, ACA project s’est associé à Koï magazine afin de mettre en avant 5 artistes français d’origines asiatiques. Imaginaire, politique, mémoire et enfance se retrouvent au croisement de leur activité.
On the occasion of the World Art Day, on Saturday, April 15th, ACA project and Koï magazine connected to highlight the work of 5 French artists from Asian origins. Imagination, politics, memory and childhood stand at the junction of their work.

Socheata Aing est une artiste performeuse. Les objets qu’elle utilise sont modestes, tantôt manufacturés, tantôt traditionnels, à la fois familiers et étranges. Elle se les réapproprie en détournant leur usage pour transmettre un autre récit. Elle fait référence à la culture populaire ainsi qu’aux histoires familiales, et aux mythes oubliés, qu’elle transforme en résistances. La dimension d’endurance dans son travail performatif est un processus qui lui permet d’user son corps pour donner en partage un fragment précieux.
Socheata Aing is a performance artist. The items she uses are modest, at times manufactured, at times traditional, both familiar and strange. She reappropriates them by subverting their usage as a way to forward another narrative. Referencing popular culture as well as family histories and forgotten myths, she transforms these into resistance. Endurance in her work is a process that allows her to wear out her body, and share a precious fragment of it with others.
Carô Gervay
Carô Gervay crée des expériences où l’imagination et la mémoire sont en jeu à travers le « dessin avec la lumière » et les « actes d’apparition ». Elle s’intéresse à l’expression et à la réponse collectives aux besoins et aux aspirations des communautés de sa diaspora (vietnamienne), tout en remettant en question les normes de création photographique. Elle est codirectrice de Gate Darkroom à Londres.
Carô Gervay creates experiences where imagination and memory are in play through ‘drawing with light’ and ‘appearing acts’. She is interested in collectively expressing and responding to the needs and aspirations of her diaspora communities, whilst challenging the norms of how we create with photography. She is co-director of the Gate Darkroom in London.

Célin Jiang est artiste-chercheuse française. Elle vit et travaille entre Paris et Shanghai. Son travail est transdisciplinaire, politique et infiltré : il vise à explorer les relations entre les arts, les technologies et les humanités numériques.

Alexandre Yang
La quête de soi est au cœur du travail d’Alexandre Yang. A l’aide d’ambiances oniriques il construit un imaginaire propre à son récit avec ses personnages et ses histoires. Il utilise des éléments de ses origines Hmong comme les tapisseries traditionnelles afin de raconter les différents épisodes de sa vie, de son enfance à aujourd’hui.
The search for oneself is at the heart of Alexandre Yang‘s work. With the help of dreamlike settings he builds an imaginary world of his own with his characters and stories. He uses elements of his Hmong heritage such as traditional tapestries to relate different episodes of his life, from his childhood to today.

Alexandre Zhu
Alexandre Zhu, d’origine chinoise, est né à Paris en 1993 où il y partage son enfance avec Shanghaï. Ses dessins sont réalisés au fusain, technique séculaire lui permettant d’interroger les mutations croissantes des milieux urbains.
Alexandre Zhu, of Chinese ancestry, spent his childhood between Paris (where he was born in 1993) and Shanghai. Zhu’s drawings are made with charcoal, a secular technique that allows him to question the growing mutations of urban environments.
